VILLAGE residents have called for changes to be made to a country road after a dark week.

Josephine Wilson was killed along with her dog Toby after she was involved in a collision with a car near to her home in The Maltings, Dormington on Friday June 6.

And fewer than 12 hours earlier, three-year-old jackawawa Tosca had been found dead in the same area.

Tosca’s owner, Bev Reeder, 52, said: “I just can’t believe what has happened. The road is quite fast and has got busier – people use it as an unofficial bypass. There needs to be something done.”

Mrs Reeder, who lives at the Maltings, said her husband had been walking Tosca with two other dogs in the orchard at around 8am. He had let the dogs off their leads and while the two youngest returned, their mother did not.

A neighbour found Tosca shortly after she had been run over. Witnesses claim Toscawas run over by a white courier van and then a second vehicle, but neither stopped.

The incident was reported to the police but no arrests have been made.

“All I want is for someone to come forward to let us know what happened,” said Mrs Reeder, a dog groomer.

Nick Brewin, chairman of Dormington and Mordiford parish council, said councillors are working hard to bring in measures that will reduce the risk of any further tragedies.

Councillor Brewin said a gate is to be put in place on July 15 at the field near to where the accident occurred.

The parish council will continue to push for a 30mph speed limit on the road.

A celebration of Mrs Wilson’s life was to be held at Dormington Church at noon yesterday. Witnesses to the accident should call 101.
