HEREFORD and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service (HWFRS) were called to a serious fire at a farm in Breinton at 6.54pm on Friday night.
Six fire appliances from Hereford, Fownhope, Eardisley and Peterchurch, were deployed to the fire, supported by two water carriers, an environmental protection unit, command support unit and a hazardous materials officer.
On arrival firefighters were faced with a large fire involving several adjoining barns and outbuildings covering an area of approximately 60 metres by 40 metres.
The buildings contained a range of agricultural chemicals and farm machinery.
Fire crews acted quickly to prevent the fire from spreading to adjacent buildings containing further machinery and chemical stores.
Crews wearing breathing apparatus entered the building but their task was made more difficult by the strong winds, limited water supplies, complex layout, and the partial collapse of the roof.
In spite of this crews swiftly brought the fire under control and thankfully no one was injured.
Sean Bailey, station commander from HWFRS, said: "The crews who attended are well trained in dealing with this type of incident and thanks to their prompt and professional actions we were able to prevent this incident from escalating further."
Crews were at the fire yesterday dampening down any remaining fire hot spots.
