VOGUE might be the world's best-known high fashion magazine but it has proven to have an eye for talent in a very different market after featuring a Herefordshire cider maker on its website.
Tom Oliver, who makes cider and perry in Ocle Pychard, was the only British entry into a list of 'top five cider picks' compiled by Dan Pucci, cider director of New York restaurant Wassail.
Mr Oliver is listed alongside three American producers – two from New York and one from California – as well as an entry from Brittany, France.
The article, which appears on the American website, Vogue.com, is called Why Hard Cider is Making a Comeback and sees Mr Pucci give his top five for anyone new to cider.
He chooses Mr Oliver's dry perry as one of those and highlights the county farmer's 'firm belief' in the uniqueness of Herefordshire pears.
The results, the article states, are a 'raw, characterful, natural perry that sees neither sulfur nor filtration nor pasteurization'.
Mr Oliver already has an outstanding reputation in Herefordshire, having picked up numerous awards for the products he produces.
Earlier this year, he was awarded the gold medal for lifetime achievement by The Royal Bath and West of England Society for his contribution to the cider industry.
