A WALKER believes a public footpath should be deemed a hazard after he fell into deep slurry.
Colin Goldsworthy was walking with a group on a signposted path in Preston Wynne, north of Hereford, across a field which, unbeknown to him, was obstructed with slurry.
He said: "Had I not been walking with a group but on my own I might not have been able to write this letter.
"I think it is a serious hazard."
He said he reported it to the council and had no acknowledgement they had even reviewed the case.
The regular walker added: "It is not obvious that this paddock is so dangerous."
A Herefordshire Council spokesman said they received a report to say a path was obstructed by slurry and they have written to the landowners making them aware of the issues and the remedial action required.
They added: "When the council is notified of potential health and safety issues on the public right of way network it will arrange a site inspection.
"If an issue is considered hazardous, Herefordshire Council has the power to close the path to the public until the area is made safe. "When an issue is not hazardous then the council may use its enforcement and maintenance powers as appropriate to protect the public’s rights of access."
Any issues can be reported to 01432 261800.
