A HEREFORD pub which was at the centre of a row over a paint job has closed.
Bosses at the Spread Eagle decided to repaint the 17th century Grade-II listed pub on King Street after an initial bright blue shade coinciding with the opening of a new fish and chip restaurant on the site attracted complaints last November.
However, it seems the darker shade failed to attract the required customers as the "Saltfish Fish and Chip Bar" name was deleted last month - with the "The Spread Eagle" title back above the main entrance.
And this week signs were put up in the windows of the city centre pub saying the business had closed.
"Due to unforseen circumstances, the Spread Eagle will be closed until further notice," it read.
"We're sorry for any inconvenience."
