POLICE arrested an 18-year-old after he lay in the middle of the road after getting drunk.

Maximilian Stutz of Cliveden Grove, Whitecross, Hereford pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly in a public place.

Hereford Magistrates' Court heard police were called to Belmont Road in Hereford on April 18 to reports of a man lying in the middle of the road obstructing traffic.

When officers arrived officers told Stutz to get up but he started to swear at the officers and thrash his arms around. He was then arrested.

George Cousins, defending, said his client had recently turned 18 and with that came a small amount of inheritance which he spent "on a car and no doubt on drink."

He said Stutz accepts he had too much to drink that night and apologises. Mr Cousins said Stutz has recently applied for a job which he hopes to start soon.

Magistrates gave him a conditional discharge for 12 months. He was ordered to pay £135 court costs and a £20 victim surcharge.
