A TEACHER has demonstrated how easily photos posted online can spread after a message she wrote on Facebook reached almost all continents of the globe in a matter of days.
Beki Hatch, a teacher at Withington Primary School, has been teaching her KS2 pupils about internet safety and decided to use an idea she had seen online to get the message out.
Together with her class, she attached a written message to a skeleton named 'John' before sharing a photo of it on Facebook, asking people to like and share the post while stating where they were in the world.
It was posted last Tuesday afternoon and by Friday had been shared 1,000 times and reached almost every continent.
Mrs Hatch said: "The kids have been really excited and we have been tracking it. We can't believe how far this message has gone.
When we spoke about it in class we asked how far it would go and they thought it would get a few shares, maybe 10.
"I think it's brought a lot of awareness. We couldn't get that photo back now. They have really understood it's quite a scary thought if you wouldn't want it to be broadcast, how easily it could be spread around."
She said even children as young as eight or nine are now using social media apps so it is important to make sure they are safe and understand what happens when images are shared online.
