TWO men were arrested for overstaying their visas during separate immigration raids at an Indian restaurant and a fish and chip shop in Hereford.
Acting on intelligence, immigration enforcement officers visited The Golden Galleon in Commercial Road at 5pm last Monday.
An Indian man, aged 26, was arrested as checks showed he had overstayed his visa.
The following day at 3pm, officers went to A Taste of Raj in St Owen Street.
Eyewitnesses reported seeing police use a drone in the operation with one bystander saying that the device was flown through the first-floor window above the restaurant.
The drone was operated by a police officer from the other side of the street.
A Taste of Raj was not open last Tuesday evening with a note placed on the business’ front door stating that a “faulty alarm” was the reason for the closure.
The Home Office said a 30-year-old Bangladeshi man was arrested at the city centre restaurant as checks showed he had overstayed his visa.
Both men will be detained while steps are taken to remove them from the UK.
The visits were part of a multi-agency operation supported by Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service, Hereford City Council and West Mercia Police.
