A car crash on the Rotherwas Relief Road, Hereford, left a boy with facial injuries.

At around 8.15am emergency services were called to the B4399 near to the A49 roundabout.

The road was closed during the morning following a crash between a silver Nissan estate and a blue BMW saloon car.

There was a man and three children in the BMW. One of the children, a four-year-old boy, was taken to Hereford County Hospital with injuries to his face.

His dad, Mark Leverton, was driving the car and called the Hereford Times to say his son, Zachariah, had been released from hospital.

He said: "He has cuts and bruises to his face where he banged heads with his brother. He also has seat belt burn.

"We are all very much in shock. I am still getting my head around it. It could have been a lot worse."

His other sons, Tyler, seven, and Dean, five were also in the car. Tyler suffered some bruising but Dean was unscathed as he was on the other side of the car from where the impact occured.

Mr Leverton said he had a headache and pain in his shoulder and arm.

The 35-year-old said he was taking his children to school from their home in Newton Farm to St Martin's Primary School when the crash happened.

Mr Leverton added: "It could have been a lot worse. The car, unbelievably, stood up very well to a side-on impact from a 4x4."

He said nobody was seriously injured as he saw the people from the other car at the hospital.

An ambulance spokesman said in the second car there was a man in his 70s who was the driver.

He had chest pain and minor injuries. A woman in her 70s was a passenger and she had minor injuries. Both were taken to Hereford County Hospital.

Police helped with road closures at the A49 roundabout and Rotherwas straight, which were still in place when officers left the scene at around 12.40pm.

Any witnesses can call police on 101, quoting incident number 86s of 8 November.
