TOXIC blue green algae continues to plague a Hereford nature reserve this year.
People and pets are advised against entering the water at Bodenham Lake, where blooms of the toxic algae have been found on several occasions in recent years.
In a social media announcement, a spokesperson for Bodenham Lake Nature Reserve said that blue green algae had been confirmed to be present at the site again this year.
The blue green algae blooms can produce toxins which can kill wild animals, livestock and pets. They can also harm people, producing rashes after skin contact and illnesses if swallowed.
The Environment Agency recommend that due to difficulties in identifying types of algae, all algal blooms are assumed to be toxic.
Keep pets and children away from the water and avoid skin contact with the water or algae.
