A HEREFORD street has been shut this afternoon after a small sinkhole appeared in the carriageway.
Cotterell Street in the Whitecross area of the city has been shut between the junction with White Horse Street and the turning for Clifford Street.
The hole appeared earlier today (Monday, July 11) close to the Bayley Brothers funeral directors.
Drought conditions and hot weather can cause sinkholes to form.

As the temperature rises, the soil underneath the road surface can shrink back causing cracks in the tarmac and the possibility of creating sinkholes.
It is unknown at the moment how long the road will be shut for but there has been an emergency closure order put in place by Herefordshire Council until midnight tomorrow
