LIB-Dem stalwart Simon Hughes was “selling” Sarah Carr to shoppers in Hereford’s High Town on Monday.
The visit also took in the city’s flood defences, praised as a practical example of what a Lib-Dem MP can do – in this case Ms Carr’s predecessor Paul Keetch.
Mr Hughes, former party president, knows Hereford as home to his mother.
Sarah Carr said the “Clegg bounce” had put a spring in the step of her canvassing teams since the leaders’ TV debate last Thursday.
