SPEED enforcement measures are to be placed on a dual carriage way.
Safety Roads Partnership have said that 15% of vehicles travelling on the A40 between Whitchurch and Ganarew have been clocked doing nearly 20mph more than the speed limit.
Promising golfer Ben Enoch, from Cornwall, died on the A40 at Whitchurch in April last year when his car left the road and collided with a trailer that was being used as a storage unit.
Research by the Safety Roads Partnership have found that during the past three years four other people have been seriously hurt and 25 have sustained minor injuries following collisions. Therefore, mobile speed cameras are to be set up on the road to try and reduce the amount of motorists who are speeding.
“This stretch of the A40 between Whitchurch and Ganarew has been identified as a core site for the Safer Roads Partnership due to the number of collisions involving serious injury and loss of life and has also demonstrated a significant speed problem,” said communications manager Vicki Bristow.
“We hope that by starting to enforce at this site we will encourage motorists using this route to reduce their speeds and ensure they are travelling within the national speed limit.”
