A GREAT-grandmother from Hereford has proved that age is no barrier to achievement by reaching Everest’s Base Camp.

Coleene Tudor, aged 70, jumped at the chance of walking on the world’s highest mountain when she was invited by a group of exsoldiers.

“I found it very tough and it was certainly challenging,”

she said. “I climbed Kilimanjaro a couple of years ago, but Everest Base Camp is 5,364m and we also went over Chola Pass, which is over 5,400m, so it took longer to complete because of the altitude.”

Coleene trained for her trek by hiking across the Malvern Hills and Brecon Beacons and recently took part in the Hereford half marathon.

She has so far raised around £2,000 for St Michael’s Hospice in Hereford.

“I have been a case worker for the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association for many years and with my work I have seen many clients having to use the hospice,” she said “It does a wonderful job and I wanted to raise lots of money for them.”
