HEREFORDSHIRE’S Phil Moore has been appointed as the new chief executive of Tchoukball UK.

Moore is also organising the FITB European Tchoukball Championships taking place in Hereford later this month.

He has been working to introduce tchoukball in Herefordshire schools and at Halo Leisure’s Get Active programme.

Tchoukball is a highspeed non-contact handball game which is played throughout the world.

“We will be looking to do more development work and my role will be the sport’s development at grass roots level and in schools,” said Moore.

“We are going to work closely with our main tournament sponsors allpay and build a partnership to introduce tchoukball to young people across Herefordshire.”

Six countries, including Great Britain, will be competing in the European Tchoukball Championships at thePoint4 in Hereford from August 27 to 29.

Great Britain, Switzerland and Italy are ranked in the top five countries in the world – while Germany, Poland and Austria could also be strong contenders.

Moore has lived in Herefordshire since 2003 and works for Halo Leisure as a technical supervisor.

He started playing tchoukball in 1991, has represented Great Britain at squad level and appeared in overseas tournaments.

“There has never been a better time for people from Herefordshire to come along and find out about tchoukball,” said Moore.

"ThePoint4 centre is one of the leading sports facilities in the country - so it's great to showcase tchoukball here.

“Bringing the European Tchoukball Championships to Herefordshire was a key part in our development of the sport in this area.”

Moore says he hopes to set up a Herefordshire Tchoukball Association and a club team in the county which will be affiliated to Herefordshire Sport.
