HEREFORD United goalscorer Dom Collins was thrilled with the Bulls' first home win since September, extending their unbeaten run to four matches.
"We needed it tonight and it was a big three points for us," said the former Chester defender.
"I was a bit scared at 2-1 down but the lads have dug deep and to win it 3-2 shows tremendous character."
With now loan acquisition Micah Evans showing up well, Hereford made a good start.
But Halifax, who have yet to win an away game this season, took the lead on 19 minutes in somewhat dubious circumstances.
Joe Ironside was judged to have been brought down by Rod McDonald and Josh Wilson rifled home from the spot.
"I didn't think it was a penalty but I'm a defender and a striker might say differently," said Collins. "I thought he fell over his own feet."
Hereford were back on level terms before the interval.
Frankie Artus delivered a free-kick from the right and Josh O'Keefe claimed the final touch.
Hereford seemed to gain some impetus from the goal but managed to gift another goal on 63 minutes.
The lively Adam Smith got away from Chris Bush on the Halifax right and his cross picked out Ironside who had plenty of space to power in his header.
Boss Martin Foyle utilised all three of his substitutes, Dan Walker, Joel Edwards and Eric Odhiambo and the replacements brought some welcome new life to the side.
Walker forced a corner and then delivered the flag-kick for Collins to thump in a header for the second equaliser.
And then, three minutes later, Walker did well again to work a cross from Danny Leadbitter into the path of Odhiambo who finished with a neat left-foot shot into the corner of the net.
Odhiambo should have scored again but allowed keeper Matt Glennon to block his effort when the former Stevenage man was in the clear.
"We showed a bit of spirit and the substitutions changed the game," said Foyle.
