HEREFORD United boss John Trewick has secured the signature of his first striker by signing 31-year-old Leon Constantine.
The 6’2” forward began his career with Millwall before a move to Southend saw him bag 25 goals for the Shrimpers in their 2003-4 League 2 season.
Further moves took him to Peterborough and Torquay before a productive move to Vale Park where he scored 26 times for Port Vale in the 2006-7 season.
A subsequent transfer to Leeds was blighted by injury and Constantine then spent an unproductive year at Northampton, netting just three times in 32 League 1 appearances.
“Leon has scored goals at a higher level and I believe he can get goals for us,” said Trewick.
The Bulls chief has also signed former Shrewsbury winger Marc Pugh, who spent time on loan at Edgar Street last season.
He has also resolved the back-up goalkeeper situation by signing former West Brom and Sheffield Wednesday stopper Chris Adamson.
The 30-year-old will concentrate principally on his duties as a goalkeeping coach but will also be deputy to first-choice Adam Bartlett.
Trewick also expects to complete the signing of a left-sided central defender this morning (Thursday) when the players report back to Edgar Street for training.
“I am looking to sign another two, possibly three, players,” said Trewick.
“I want a right-side player going forward and another centre-forward.
“There are a lot of calls out and we have made a lot of inquiries. There will also be one or two players coming in during pre-season for us to have a look at.”
Two players not returning to Edgar Street, however, will be Ben Smith and Kris Taylor.
Smith has begun pre-season training with Cheltenham Town while the contract offer to Taylor has now been withdrawn.
Hereford fans will have their first chance to run the rule over the new-look squad when the Bulls make the short trip to Old School Lane to take on Pegasus Juniors in a pre-season friendly next Thursday.
