LEADON RIVER PROBLEM - The Leadon river, its catchment and tributaries, have been found to be failing objectives for good ecological status, based on chemical content, sedimentation, fish population and riparian habitat. The aim is for all water bodies to be in good ecological status by 2015, and the England’s Fields project is being run by the Farming and Wildlife Advisory Group South West to advise on ways of improving local water quality. The National Farmers Union, the Environment Agency and Natural England are also taking part and will look at low flows in the River Leadon as well as flooding and other matters and will offer free advice to farmers on how to manage the countryside. There will be a drop-in evening on Wednesday from 5pm-7pm at Oxenhall Village Hall. The main launch event will be on January 17 from 10am to 1.30pm at The Stables, Lower House Farm, Canon Frome.
Everyone is welcome to share their thoughts on water related issues and to help come up with solutions to the problems. Booking is essential. Enquiries to Chantel Brown on 07778 700539 or on chantal@chantalbrownconsulting.co.uk. The project is running until May.
PARISH COUNCIL - Bishop’s Frome and Fromes Hill Parish Council will meet in the village centre at 7.30pm on Tuesday. All parishioners are welcome to attend.
