A HEREFORD student is asking Herefordshire residents to ‘dig deep’ for charity before she tackles Mount Kilimanjaro this August.
Katie Evans, 23, from Hereford, will be taking on the challenge of climbing the world’s highest free-standing mountain with a group of students from Liverpool John Moores University.
She is raising money for Dig Deep – a charity that helps provide access to clean water and sanitation in Kenya by drilling wells, harvesting rainwater, and helping the communities access renewable energies.
Miss Evans said: “It’s a really deserving charity for communities in Kenya. These changes can make a difference to so many lives.”
Katie has so far raised just over £1,200 of her £2,890 target, which has to be handed over to the charity by July 3.
“I’ve been doing a lot of training on my bike that I bought in January, I've been trying to walk a lot more than I do normally like walking to work, and I’ve also been using my gym membership.
“I'm also taking part in The Big Black Mountain challenge on May 18 for some training.”
Katie’s next fundraising event is a charity darts competition on May 5 at the Ducking Stool, Leominster.
