POP Up Opera returns to Lyde Court on Friday, April 26, with Donizetti’s Don Pasquale.
This comic opera is the story of a young man, Ernesto, in love with the beautiful but penniless Norina.
Ernesto’s uncle, Don Pasquale, a wealthy land owner, opposes the match and chooses a more suitable girl for Ernesto to marry, but Ernesto refuses and the Don decides he will cut Ernesto out of his will and marry himself to produce a more suitable heir.
Duped into marrying the apparently subservient and demure Sofronia (in reality Norina in disguise), the Don is dismayed to discover he’s married a shrew who turns his life upside down.
His relief on learning of the deception is so great that he agrees to the marriage of Norina and Ernesto.
