ACCLAIMED folk artist Martin Simpson, who has been nominated 29 times for the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards over 12 years, more than any other folk performer, will be playing at The Courtyard on Thursday, May 2.
Widely acknowledged as one of the finest acoustic and slide guitar players in the world, his interpretations of traditional songs are masterpieces of storytelling.
His sound is distinctive with guitars, banjola and banjo, allowing his music to move from solo slide to flat-out grooves through the use of nursery rhymes and tragic dark ballads.
Simpson’s own material tells true stories dealing with themes of love, loss and many more.
Whether playing American old-time music, blues, a Dylan song or his own material, Martin Simpson is unpredictable, individual and a guitarist of immense subtlety.
Martin Simpson will be at The Courtyard on Thursday, May 2 at 8pm.To book, call the box office on 01432 340555
