BADMINTON CLUB – The club held an Easter badminton competition for its younger members. Justin Sharp won the competition and Rosie Emerson was second. Other finalists were Josh and Shane Blythe, Payton Banks and Ollie Hoare.

The winner, runner-up and finalists were all presented with an Easter egg. Three of the junior players, Justin Sharp, Rosie Emerson and Rhian Powell, are members of the South Powys junior team. The club meets on a Wednesday evening in Knighton Community Centre.

LEG CLUB MOVES TO NEW VENUE – The Knighton and Presteigne Leg Club has moved from Knighton methodist chapel to the Reynolds Room in Knighton community centre.

The club is open every Thursday morning from 9.30am until noon for prevention advice and treatment of leg problems.

The charity is run by a group of dedicated volunteers who raise money throughout the year to pay for the venue hire and for equipment. Powys Local Teaching Health Board provide the professional staff who advise and treat people.

Anyone who has a problem with their legs or just wants advice can drop into the club, no appointment or referral is needed and the club is for people of all ages. The volunteers greet clients, deal with paperwork and serve coffee, tea and biscuits. The club has support from other local charities, including Knighton Hospital League of Friends who bought screens, and Knighton and District Rotary Club who paid for a treatment bed.

More volunteers are needed to help run the club. If you can help, please call in on a Friday morning. The club is part of the national Lindsay Leg Club Foundation details of which can be found at legclub.org.

CUB SCOUTS AGM – At Knighton Cub Scouts’ recent annual meeting, a new secretary and treasurer were appointed and chairman Val Smith was reelected.

The new secretary is Pat Biggs and treasurer Joy Burgin.

After discussing business, retiring secretary George Linaker was presented with a 40 years’ service award by deputy area commissioner Fiona Preece who thanked George for all his hard work. George was also thanked by Paul Kenyon.

chairman of the Radnor area, for all his help and support over the years. After coming out of the army George started working with Scouts in 1954 as an assistant leader in Southport. He also led Scout groups in Rochdale and Bolton before moving to the area and working with Presteigne, Knucklas and lastly Knighton Cub Scouts, where he took on the role as secretary and helped with the youngsters.

George was also the area chaplain and as part of his role organised most of the St George’s Day parades in Radnorshire.

When he wasn’t working with Scouts he worked with the Boys’ Brigade. Knighton Cub Scouts are looking for more leaders or helpers who can spare a couple of hours on a Friday evening to work with the cub scouts who meet in the church hall every week.

COFFEE MORNING – this takes place at the church hall on Saturday, starting at 10.30am with tables selling cakes, books, gardening items and more.

100 CLUB DRAW – The April results of the town silver band 100 Club were: 1st (£15) Gwen Tyler; 2nd (£10) Ann Harroway (both Knighton); and 3rd (£5) Yvonne Bedford of Llandrindod.

SPRING CONCERT – The town silver band will be holding their spring concert in the community centre on April 27, at 7.30pm.

Guests will be Knighton primary school choir led by Judith Phillips. The 30-strong choir will perform a variety of songs including some solo items.

Tickets are £6 (free for children) available on the door.

TRACTOR RUN – Teme Valley vintage club will be holding their annual tractor road run on April 28, starting from Benson’s Yard at 10am. This is an annual event that has raised thousands of pounds for charity over the years. The route will take drivers along country roads stopping at the Lloyney Inn for lunch and then back to Knighton for the finish. Entry fees are £10 each.
