AN air raid shelter in the grounds of a historic castle could be demolished.
The bomb protection unit in the garden of Eastnor Castle has, thankfully, been unused since the end of the Second World War.
Built in 1940, the shelter has two entrances and is divided into four sections, with the inside walls covered with wire mesh netting.
In planning documents sent with the planning application the shelter is said to have suffered some subsidence and weathering, causing cracks in some areas of the external brick work.
The castle – a popular tourist attraction – says it will compile a photographic record of the shelter before it’s demolished.
