A LEOMINSTER care home has celebrated its fifth anniversary.
Waverley House celebrated with a birthday party attended by more than 25 guests including cabinet member for health and wellbeing, Councillor Patricia Morgan.
Guests were given guided tours of the home – which provides accommodation for 47 residents and offers day care, convalescent care, physiotherapy and independent living training.
Waverley House manager, Alan Riley, said: “We’re delighted that so many people could come and celebrate our fifth anniversary with us.
“It was great for everyone here to share time with residents’ friends and family, as well as with people interested in the care and support of our residents.”
The home – run by Shaw healthcare on behalf of Herefordshire County Council – also provides a separate dementia care service for people living with different types of dementia such as Alzheimer’s.
Celebrations included a video showing of the English Symphony Orchestra (ESO) whose Concerts for Care Homes project has been supported through a grant from Shaw healthcare’s charity Shaw Foundation.
There was also a showing of Shaw’s new dementia care video, which outlines the support it provides and new technologies available to help dementia sufferers.
Waverley House employs 92 members of staff and many are local people who work at the home as nurses alongside other professions.
One support worker, Trina Williams, was named carer of the year at last year’s Shaw Star Awards, beating more than 4,600 competitors from across the UK.
Mr Riley said the event was also important to thank the staff who work at the home who go the extra mile to deliver the best possible care service for the local community.
He said:”Everyone had a great day and we look forwarding to toasting our 10th anniversary in five years’ time.”
