A WARNING has been issued to Hereford Sixth Form students who will be sitting their exams during the four-week closure of Newmarket Street.
With both eastbound lanes being closed from May 12, college principal Jonathan Godfrey is urging students to plan their travel carefully, or stay in Hereford with a friend, in order to avoid the major disruption expected on the roads.
The street closure coincides with three weeks of first-year exams, and Dr Godfrey has told parents that it is by no means certain that buses will be able to reach the college for 9am exam start-times.
“This will obviously cause major disruption and delays during the important examination period for our students,” said Dr Godfrey.
“In the event of students’ being late for an examination which starts at 9am they will be admitted if they arrive before 10am and will be allowed extra time.
“I hope, however, this situation can be avoided.”
However while these traffic delays are falling at a crucial time in the academic year, students will only have to attend college to sit exams – around half of which will be in the afternoon - meaning they will only be faced with the morning commute four or five times.
