TESCO has confirmed plans to bring a ‘small supermarket’ to Bromyard.
A formal application will be submitted to Herefordshire Council in the summer, but the plan is to build the store on the site of the former Post Office on Tenbury Road, along with a 120-space car park offering three hours free parking.
A public exhibition will be held later this year where residents will be able to study the plans and discuss the details with the Tesco team.
Jonathan Simpson, Tesco’s corporate affairs manager, said that 80 jobs would be created by the venture.
“Our plans are based on a small format store that would offer a quality food and grocery service, rather than sell the wider ranges of non-food goods associated with our larger stores,” he added.
“We know that many people currently travel out of the town for their main weekly food shopping, so a new Tesco would offer them the convenience of shopping in Bromyard, saving both time and travel costs.”
