ORGANISATIONS in Ledbury are being encouraged to sign up for a special Community Day, as part of the Ox Roast weekend marking 60 years since the Queen’s coronation.

June 1 will be a chance for groups and clubs to show what they have to offer with a range of events, fund-raisers and displays.

Groups already signed up include Ledbury Floral Art, St Michael’s Church, Salter’s Hill Charity, PKA Kickboxing Club. and Ledbury Skittles League.

Businesses are also supporting it, such as Blue Fuschia Cupcakes, which is holding a cupcake competition.

Anyone who wants to get involved is being urged to sign up at communityday@ ledburyoxroast.org .uk before May 3.

Paul Kinnard of the Ox Roast committee said: “The Community Day is really exciting.

“We want to create a blueprint for community involvement and showcase the excellence in Ledbury for the world to share.”

Supporting the day is drinks giant Heineken, which owns the UBL cider mill on the edge of town, and Low Carbon Ledbury, which is organising a green fair, to promote sustainable living.

Ruth Busbridge of Low Carbon Ledbury said: “We hope that this day will help the local community to become more resilient and self-reliant so it will thrive in the future.”

Mark Baker of Heineken said: “'We are delighted to be both supporting and participating in the Ledbury Ox Roast Community Day.

“As the largest employer in Ledbury, we believe it is really important to get involved in local events that bring the community together.
