QUIZ – John Beddoes School Parent/Teachers Association is holding a quiz at The Knighton Hotel today, Thursday, at 7.30pm.

PRESTEIGNE FOOTBALL CLUB – The annual fun day and beer festival will take place on August 25.

COMMUNITY DRAW – Presteigne and Norton community support recently held its April community draw. Sharon Jones drew out Mrs J Charlton £20, Mrs G Lister £15 and Mrs P Moodie £12.

MARKET – The monthly farmers’ market will take place on May 4 at the memorial hall from 9.30am.

All the usual stalls will be there for you to pick up a bargain or two.

TALK – There is an illustrated talk by Nigel Jones of Clwyd- Powys Archaeological Trust at Walton village hall on May 7, at 7.30pm. Admission will be £3 and everyone is welcome.

CAR BOOT – John Beddoes PTA is holding a car boot sale on the school playground (hard standing) on May 5, from noon- 4pm. There will be refreshments available. Boots cost £5 and vans £8. WRITING COURSE – Lara Clough is holding a writing detective thriller fiction course at Paradise Farm on Tuesday mornings from 10.30-12.30pm beginning on Tuesday and running until July 9.

FASHION SHOW – The mayor of Presteigne Coun Brian Price put on a charity fashion show presented by Top to Toe from Knighton as part of his mayor’s charity appeal. The event raised £500 and a further £250 was raised at the mayor’s lunch at Radnorshire Arms. Brian and his helpers are also organising a concert featuring mezzo soprano Rebecca Afonwy-Jones and pianist Alice Turner at the assemble rooms in Presteigne on May 5 at 3pm. Money from the three events will be divided between the East Radnor Day Centre and Presteigne and Norton Community Support.

At the fashion show Brian welcomed everyone for coming and at the end thanked the models and Irene Calverley from Top to Toe, presenting them with flowers. He also thanked Chris Price, Abbie Packham, Jessica Robinson and Julie Layton for helping dress the models and Gordon Calverley for acting as MC.

CHRISTIAN AID WEEK – Can you spare some time to collect for Christian Aid week? If so please attend a meeting at the Baptist Church on May 12, at 3pm.

Organiser Angela Mann reported that £1,413.49 was collected last year, an increase of £250 on the previous year. For further details call Angela on 267265.

SERVICES – The following church services will take place this Sunday. Holy Communion at Kinsham at 9.30am, St Andrews at 11am and Discoed at 6.30pm.

COFFEE MORNING – There is a coffee morning at the community support office in Hereford Street on Saturday from 10.30am. There will be stalls and a raffle and all proceeds will go to the transport scheme and the Circle. Everyone is welcome.

CUB SCOUTS – Presteigne Cub Scouts require additional adults to help out on Mondays at their meetings. FLORAL ARTS – The next meeting of Presteigne and Borders Floral Arts Society will take place on May 8 at the memorial hall at 7.30pm. This month Pat Smith will give a flower demonstration and the competition will be In The Frame. Visitors can attend for £5.

BROWNIES SLEEPOVER – Presteigne Brownies went on a sleepover to Lingen community hall for science fun indoors and out. The girls played games, sang, worked with magnets, prepared their own lunch, built a waterproof outdoor shelter, made kaleidoscopes, tie-dyed T-shirts and experimented with bubbles.

Presteigne Rainbows and Brownies meet in the Methodist Church at Presteigne every Tuesday evening. Spaces are available for anyone wanting to join Rainbows and next term Guides will be starting. Anyone interested in joining should telephone 07754 491820.

MARK BROWN – The popular local singer Mark Brown is back by popular demand at The Royal British Legion Club on May 4, from 8pm. Admission is £3 at the door. Everyone is welcome.

FUN RIDE – The annual Norton fun ride will take place on May 12 at Norton Manor Park. The first horse will leave at 10am and the last at 1pm. You can choose from six or 12 miles through the glorious Radnorshire countryside.

CAKE SALE – There is a cake sale at The Royal British Legion Club in aid of Help The Heroes on Saturday morning from 10am - 1pm. Any cake donations would be gratefully received. For details call Sarah Powell on 07980 310688.

TEA AND FAIR – Old Radnor WI invite you to afternoon tea and spring fair at Walton Hall on Saturday from 3-5pm. There will be a Chinese auction, bottle, plant and cake stalls, a raffle and refreshments plus lots more.

Donations from the proceeds will be made to St Michael’s Hospice and The Bracken Trust.

VILLAGE SIGN – Just a reminder that Presteigne and Norton town council will be taking down the best kept village sign in Norton and placing it in The Judge’s Lodgings Museum to preserve it.
