A FORMER county primary school is expected to be the temporary home for a new free school.
The old Holme Lacy Primary School will accommodate the new Robert Owen Group free school, subject to a funding agreement being signed, before it moves into Herefordshire Council's Blackfriars Offices once they have been vacated and refurbished.
The Department for Education has asked the council to provide suitable premises from its building stock for the Robert Owen Group to open a new 14-to-19 vocational school under the government’s free school scheme.
Free schools are state-funded schools that can be set up with approval from the Department for Education.
Although the local authority has no involvement in setting them up - the final decisions lie with the Department for Education - the government expects organisations setting up free schools to consult with the local authority.
