HAY Music, which promotes a monthly concert among the bookstacks of Richard Booth’s Bookshop in Hay, presents its first concert at St Mary’s Church next Thursday, May 9, with a programme of sacred and secular choral music spanning four centuries, The Choral Muse.
Performed by the Senior Chamber Choir of Hereford Cathedral School under director David Evans, the concert opens with Purcell’s Hear My Prayer, and the programme includes Antonio Lotti’s Crucifixus, Stanford’s setting of Coleridge’s The Bluebird and, to mark the 50th anniversary of the assassination of President Kennedy in 1963, the choir will perform Take Him Earth for Cherishing by Herbert Howells, commissioned for the USA national commemorations in 1964.
Tickets are available from Richard Booth’s Bookshop or at the door on the night.
