A CONCERT at Leominster’s Lion Ballroom on Sunday, May 12 will feature Cardiff Winds, a recently formed quintet of top professional musicians Sarah Newbold (flute), Catriona Mackinnon (oboe), Robert Plane (clarinet), Donald Clist (horn) and Meyrick Alexander (bassoon) all have links to Cardiff's major musical institutions, including the Orchestra of Welsh National Opera, the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.
The programme will feature Summer Music by Barber, an arrangement of Debussy’s Petite Suite, a work by Hindemith and the première of Morning Music by Malvernresident composer Derek Smith, who won the BBC/Henschel Quartet composition prize in 2008-9 with Carolingua.
The concert will open with Ancient Hungarian Dances by Farkas and end with an engaging set of variations by Damase.
