A LEOMINSTER woman is raising money for a charity fighting the disease that killed her father.

Melissa Price, 24, is also determined to raise awareness of motor neurone disease.

She recently organised a 10-mile walk around Hereford and has now turned her attention to doing something for charity every month this year before taking on the challenge of walking the Great Wall of China next April.

Melissa said: “My dad, Paul Price, was an amazing man, so lively and full of energy. He was so talented and was an amazing guitarist.

"He was very well-known and loved and was always willing to do favors for people.

“He was in a duo called Double Deal – which was him and my mum Helen – and he worked for BT.”

Last week, the Hereford Times reported how Jade Marsh, from Hereford, was also raising money for MND after her dad was diagnosed with the condition earlier this year.

Melissa said: “It's important that people know that this disease hasn’t just affected one person, it has affected two men both in their early 50s, from Leominster and Hereford, diagnosed with the exact same type of MND, while both their daughters are in their early 20s.

“We are told that this disease is rare but this goes to show that more people can be affected than people realise. Five people in the UK die every day from this disease, but we don’t see adverts on the TV about it and so many people don't even know what it is.

“Once you’re diagnosed with MND it is just a waiting game, there is no cure and that needs to change.”

The next fund-raising event will be a night of live entertainment at the Ducking Stool in Leominster on May 31.
