AN exhibition of photographs by cinematographer Richard Greatrex can be seen at the Salem Gallery (formerly the Oriel Gallery) in Hay-on-Wye from May 23.
Having been responsible for the cinematography of such films as A Knight’s Tale, Mrs Brown and Shakespeare in Love, Richard has replaced the moving image with stills photography – “throughout my time as a cinematographer, stills photography was always a part time romance, now, with more time, it is a full blown love affair.
“I try to employ what I have learned about story telling from film-making in my photographic work,” he explains.
The exhibition includes a selection of Richard’s work over the last few years, included images from Resistance Reimagined, a narrative series of photographs based on Owen Sheers’ bestselling novel Resistance.
The other two sections of the exhibition are Cuba Noticed and You Will See.
The exhibition runs until Sunday, June 2, open every day, 10am to 6pm.
