COUNCILLOR Tony Johnson is the new leader of Herefordshire Council’s ruling Tory group.
The group elected coun Johnson at its meeting last night marking a meteoric rise for the ward member for Hope End.
Appointed cabinet support member – corporate and education after the last election he was subsequently given a cabinet portfolio of his own created to cover financial management.
As leader of the ruling group, coun Johnson is technically now leader of the council, but that title needs to be ratified when the full council meets on May 24.
Previous group and council leader Councillor John Jarvis announced last month that he was standing down for “health reasons”.
