DARREN and Sue Underwood have driven to the top of their class in the REIS Get Connected Rally Championship.

The husband-and-wife team from Leominster lead Class B10 in the National Championship after two impressive days at the rain-hit Manx National Rally.

The bumpy asphalt roads in the Isle of Man proved a challenge for the couple’s Crystal Images Awards/ Conference Care 1600 Nova.

Their car suffered a puncture on an 11-mile stage but they knew their championship position was secure with a cushion of more than six minutes.

It was only the pair’s second visit to the island and intermittent rain storms tested drivers over the 110- mile stages.

“Our aim for the weekend was to maximise on the championship class position, so we’re pleased with our efforts,” said Darren.

“There were some technical stretches, coupled with fast flowing sections which were made treacherous by standing water.”

The pair took seventh overall on the National ‘B’ event and enjoyed the challenge of night stages.

They are likely to miss the next two events due to other commitments. But there are enough rounds remaining for the duo to continue their challenge from August.
