SCOTT and Roger Moran have hit the front in this season’s MSA British Hill Climb Championship.

The father and son duo from Orleton – who share a Gould GR61X – scored a championship win apiece on the second day of action in last weekend’s doubleheader.

With reigning champion Trevor Willis claiming an emphatic win in difficult Lancashire conditions at Barbon Manor on the Saturday, and the round four run-off cancelled, championship hopeful Scott knew he needed a strong second day.

It was Roger Moran, however, who starred in the first run-off on the longer Harewood track – leading off with an impressive time, more than a second quicker than his rivals.

Scott went one better in the second run-off, clipping over a second off his father’s time and securing top spot in the standings ahead of Willis and Scotsman Wallace Menzies, the weekend’s highest points scorer with Scott.

Scott leads the provisional standings, with 44 points, while Roger is second with 40, after the double-header weekend.

The next rounds are at Gurston Down on May 25.

Reigning-champion Willis already has one eye on the standings.

“Harewood is very different to Barbon,” said Willis, who spun on his final runoff of the weekend.

“Roger benefited from being the first driver in a shared car so he got the best of the conditions going out early.

“Importantly for me, I beat Scott and that’s what is really important at this stage.”
