HOME athlete Kathryn King was the first woman home when the Wye Valley Runners-organised Summer 10k was held for the first time as an evening race.
King secured a comfortable victory in the ladies’ race with a winning time of 41 minutes three seconds.
Unattached Runner Daneen Hughes and Kylie Mansfield of Hereford Triathlon Club finished second and third respectively.
Severn AC athlete Kyran Hale claimed first place overall, completing the course in 34.05 and finishing 25 seconds ahead of Richard White, of Halesowen AC.
Luke Mason, of Wye Valley Runners, finished third.
Wye Valley Runners secured both the men’s and ladies’ team awards.
The winning men’s team was Mason, Greg Wood and John Pullen while the winning ladies were King, Rebecca Davies and Laura Tootell.
Blind runner Paul Watts, also of Wye Valley Runners, found the energy to complete the course in 53.58 despite having completed his 250th marathon just a few days earlier.
“The race turnout exceeded our expectations and attracted a good quality field with 83 of the 90 finishers completing the course in under 60 minutes,” said Wye Valley Runners’ Mike Shaw.
“We wish to thank all those who participated in this race and particularly the many volunteers whose help ensures we can run a successful event. We also appreciate the patience and consideration of local motorists.”
