NETBALL AND FOOTBALL - Village teams had a very successful time at the annual Rural Schools Tournament, hosted by St Mary's School, Credenhill. The netballers, defending champions, had a great run through the round robin section, which led to a tie with Canon Pyon and a play off. In a tense final game, Canon Pyon just pipped it 1-0. A great display of sporting skill and endeavour for the spectators.
In the football, a slow start with a draw was soon overcome and four matches in a row were won.
Lugwardine were dispatched in a close semi-final, then the hosts were taken on in another tense final game. A cracking header from Tom, and an angled drive into the roof of the net by Josh won the game and the trophy. A good day all round, played in the best sporting atmosphere and spirit.
GARDEN CLUB - The next meeting of Wellington Garden Club takes place in the community centre today (Thursday) at 7.30pm.
Speaker Gail Plant will help members to encourage the correct type of wildlife into the garden.
As always there will be refreshments and a raffle. The club is combining with St Margaret’s Church to hold an Open Garden event on July 6-7 when there will be light refreshments, flowers in the church and around 20 gardens to visit.
