A MAN remains under police guard at Hereford County Hospital this morning after a double stabbing and siege in South Hereford yesterday.

The man under guard was talked out of a flat in Golden Post, Hunderton, by a police negotiator after the stabbings at a flat in Broxash Drive.

Both Broxash Drive stab victims are also being treated at Hereford County hospital.

The man under guard also has what is described as a “stab wound to the groin”. He was initially treated at the Golden Post flat by paramedics once the scene had been made secure.

Another man arrested near the Broxash Drive scene is in police custody.

A series of arrests have been made overnight as investigations into the stabbings and related offences continue.

  • Police in Hereford have thanked local residents for their support following yesterday's stabbings.

Superintendent Ivan Powell, policing commander for Herefordshire, said: “This was an extremely fast moving investigation that required the deployment of a significant number of police resources including firearms officers, plain clothes and uniform response officers and dog units.

“A major investigation is now underway and over the next few days, residents are likely to see a number of officers in the Belmont area carrying out forensic examinations, crime scene searches and house to house inquiries.

“I would like to thank the local communities in Hereford for their understanding and support during yesterday’s police operation and for their co-operation as we continue to investigate these events.

“I would like to reassure local people that while these were very serious assaults, there is no longer any threat to the community as a result of the incident.

“While the identity of the injured men may be known to some members of the community, we are not in a position to confirm their names at this time.

“Both men were seriously assaulted but thankfully, their injuries are not life threatening. We continue to support them and their families as we continue with our investigation.”

Anyone with information about the assaults can call police on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

The public are also encouraged to approach any officers, who will be in the area over the next few days conducting local inquiries, with any details or concerns they may have in connection with this incident.
