GARDENERS’ ASSOCIATION - An evening with Reg Moule was the topic for the May meeting.
The man is a walking garden encyclopaedia but also a very lively and entertaining speaker.
He bought everyone up to date on the insecticide bans that are coming into place from December because of their suspected impact on bees, but followed this with how to employ other tried and tested bug and slug treatments.
His main talk was followed by a very lively question and answer session with some people even bringing along specimens of problems.
Next month’s garden visit will be to Staunton Park near Shobdon on June 12, meeting in the school car park at 1.15pm to share cars.
Cost of entry to the 10 acre park and gardens is £4 per head with home-made refreshments extra.
Anyone interested is welcome but please let Len Day know in advance for catering purposes on the number below.
During the autumn show there are a number of food and craft categories, which are usually very well supported. Cookery and handicraft categories include a jar of jam, a seasonal harvest pasty, six cheese straws, five butterfly cakes, an apple shortcake (recipe available on request), a jar of chutney, something new from something old, photograph of fungi, an item of needlework, a decorated pin cushion and a woven item.
Visitors and new members to the gardening club are always very welcome. To join for a taster evening, meetings are every second Tuesday of the month in the community centre at 7.30pm. For more information on the club and its activities, contact secretary Len Day on 01432 880657.
