TREF-Y-CLAWDD WI - It was a great evening at this month’s meeting. Julia and John Roberts gave a talk on the Severn Valley railways, in particular the Great Weston line. Their involvement started many years ago when their family moved to Kidderminster and Julia’s mother worked in a shop at Kidderminster station. The family soon became volunteers helping when needed. They dressed up in 1940’s clothes for a 40s weekend, helped with ‘Thomas specials’ and the ‘Santa’ trains. Their love and enthusiasm for the line and steam trains was very clear. Over the years much has been done to the line with the help of people like John and Julia.
The line has been extended to Bridgenorth and many engines have been restored. The line can be seen in many films including The Railway Children. At the business part of the meeting Julia Roberts was congratulated by president Shirley Moorhouse for coming first at the county show with her felt painting. The next meeting is on July 3, at 7.30pm in the Baptist church schoolroom.

Those who attended enjoyed a traditional tea prepared by members and their friends and music by John Thornton. The raffle winners were: Cath Reeves, Diana Rudge, Brenda Steadman, Ruth Davies, Brenda Aspley, Liz Reynolds and Emma Bywater.
The church was also decorated.
