CHURCH – On Sunday there will be a benefice pet service at Kingsland at 11am. The congregation will have the opportunity to give thanks for the love and loyalty received from their pets and can either bring their smaller pets with them to church (dogs on leads and cats in baskets please). After the service there will be a pet show on the village green. Later at 6.30pm there will be a benefice communion service again at Kingsland, when Archdeacon Paddy Benson will be talking on the subject of stewardship AYMESTREY FETE – Plans are now well under way for Aymestrey village fete which will take place on July 20 starting at 1pm in the orchard behind the parish hall. All the usual stalls and games will be available – tombola, whack the rat, cake and produce stall, coconuts, bowling for a pig, bottle stall, etc. There will also be the usual arena events – children’s races, the famous fun dog show and, of course, the tug of war... so start training now and get teams organised. The produce show will take place in the marquee in the orchard. The schedule for this and the dog show rules can be found on the back page of the next edition of Aymestrey Matters.
Volunteers are needed to help on Friday, the day before the fete, when the larger marquees will be set up. Please meet at the parish hall at 10.30am. It is requested that items donated for raffle prizes, the tombola, bottles for the bottle stall, bric-a-brac, toys, etc.
be delivered as soon as possible so it gives the organisers of these stalls a chance to sort things out.
Cakes for the produce stall and the tea tent can be delivered on the day. Contacts for donations are Meg Thorpe on 780384, Ruth Scamp on 709031and Ken Holland on 770367.
PHOTO COMPETITION – The 2014 calendar photo competition will be judged on the day of the Aymestrey fete. Entrants are requested to take along a hard copy of their photo on the day or to email Helen Hamilton at bluesome@gmail.com or post them to Little Covenhope, HR6 9SY.
