SUMMER CELEBRATION - Celebrations on Saturday from 11.30am to 3.30pm combine community games on the sports field with professional coaches – to include short tennis, volley ball, cricket etc – to sack, egg-and-spoon, and three legged races, plus dance and taekwando.
In the village hall there’s a children’s art competition, refreshments and many stalls including cakes, cards, bric-a-brac and produce. Fun and games for all the family. All in aid of funds for playing field equipment, plans and pictures of which will be on view for comments. Sponsored by Herefordshire Healthy Lifestyle Service and Clehonger Village Jubilee Group, with input from MYLO, Brightstripe, Community Games, Herefordshire Housing, Bulmers, and Sports Partnership Herefordshire and Worcestershire. For any enquiries, call Alison on 01981 251269.
GARDENING COMPETITION - Last year’s village gardening competition was a success with 20 entries, after many years without any competition. This year’s contest will again be for front gardens only, and to ensure as many parishioners as possible win over time, different judges from outside the village will be used each year. Up for grabs are the Jubilee Shield for the best garden, medals to first, second and third, and the Garden Delight shield as a separate award for a different theme each year. This year the theme is annual bedding plants, which should cover half of the dug garden. This will give someone who has never gardened before an chance to dig, buy and plant, and have a good display on August 16 when judging will take place. There is a free booklet on bees and flowers to all entrants.
