BBC commentators are often heard bemoaning the lack of available places for children to play tennis and try to become the next Andy Murray.
Well, they would no doubt be adding their voice to a campaign to try to save two tennis courts in Hereford.
The Hereford Times has this week reported on plans by Herefordshire Council and the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) to extend the Three Elms Trading Estate.
If approved, it could result in the tennis courts at the nearby Grandstand Park being demolished.
I live near the park and regularly see youngsters playing tennis there or just enjoying the open space.
It would be a real shame if the tennis courts are removed and I applaud the residents who have clubbed together to campaign against the plans.
Budding Andy Murrays need to start from the bottom, but how can they if they cannot go into their local park and play tennis, which I might add, is free.
All too often, we hear about youths who get into mischief because there is nothing for them to do or we complain all they do us sit indoors on their computers.
The summer holidays have just started and the weather remains sunny.
So, what better way for them to enjoy their time off than keeping fit and taking up a sport like tennis?
Sadly, if these plans are approved, then they may never be able to reach their full potential and the new Andy Murray may have to be discovered elsewhere.
