WORLD’S BIGGEST COFFEE MORNING - As part of the event the Knighton Macmillan Cancer Support group will be holding a coffee morning at the church hall, Knighton, tomorrow (Friday) from 10.20am to noon. All money raised will go towards helping local people and their families suffering with cancer.
SUNDAY SERVICES - Knighton Methodist Church, 11am led by Sister Margaret Davies. St Michael’s, Cascob, 10.30am, East Radnor Benefice service led by Canon John Greaves and Rev Melia Cope. Knighton and Knucklas baptist churches have no service. Joint service at Coxall chapel at 2.30pm. Knighton Catholic Church, celebration of Holy Mass 11am.
COFFEE - Knighton and District Community Support Project held its autumn coffee morning recently which was very well supported by members of the public and volunteers. Charities in attendance were Fairtrade, Knighton Community Support Charity Shop, Macmillan Nurses, Offa Trefoil Guides, Samaritans, Teme Spirits, Wales Air Ambulance and WRVS. Local craft makers were Julie Watts and Annette Evans.
Andrew Catlin of Knighton Community Support Project thanked all the volunteers who gave their time whether it was helping to set up the hall, help on the door, with the raffle, make cakes, provide our bric-a-brac stall or help with refreshments.
All the raffle prizes were generously donated from trustees, employees and volunteers. Raffle winners were Sue O’Rourke, Beryl Powell, Andrew Catling, Gerena Powell, Liz Petley, Kath Poole, Sheila Clarke, Pam Mills, Nolly Bebbington, Kath Rees, Margaret Rutherford, Ellie Meek, Val Smith, Ann Harroway, Brenda Morgan, Ken Fincham, Julie Watts and Elaine Evans. The Wales Air Ambulance draw was won by Liz George.
The next coffee morning will be the Christmas event on December 4, when Katie Baker has generously agreed to play the piano.
PHOENIX AGM - Members of Knighton Phoenix gathered in the Offa’s Dyke Centre, Knighton recently for their annual meeting.
Chairman Gail Hudson welcomed everyone before congratulating all the committee members on the successful opening of Knighton’s new BMX/Skate park. Next the officers were elected. Gail was re-elected as chairman, Sion Mosler vice-chairman, secretary Lynsey Price and treasurer Suzanne Roberts.
WHIST DRIVE - The first Knighton Ladies’ Bowling Club whist drive of the winter season took place on September 19.
Results: first woman Doreen Bowen; second Phil Ammonds; third Rose Farmer; and lowest Connie Bright. First man Lynda Hall; second Anne Price; third Sue Sutton; and lowest June Williams. Raffle winners were Haydon Jones, Sue Price and Mabel Evans. Thanks were given by Linda Parker. MC was Shirley Moorhouse and prizes were presented by Lynda Hall. The next whist drive is on Thursday, October 3, at 7.30pm.
