A SPECIAL event at Hereford museum and art gallery this Saturday sings the praises of the city's "canary" girls.
As part of the continuing commemorations for the 100th anniversary of the First World War in Herefordshire, local historian Julie Orton-Davies will be giving an illustrated talk on the lives of women munitions workers at Rotherwas from 1916-1918.
Those workers were the canary girls, so called because the chemicals they worked with turned their skin yellow.
The conditions they worked in were dangerous too.
Saturday's event from 2pm-3.30pm is free to attend with tickets available by calling 01432 383383 or e-mailing herefordmuseums@herefordshire.gov.uk.
