TO celebrate 10 years together, Madley Craft Group are mounting a Made in Madley craft exhibition on November 22. The event will take place at Madley Parish Hall between 2pm and 4pm with free admission, vintage tea and cakes, a children’s Christmas workshop, craft demonstrations and a raffle.
The exhibition will display the best work of the group, novice and vintage crafts along with examples of items they have made for charity. The group will not be selling any of the work on show but commissions can be arranged.
They are creating a colourful Made in Madley quilt using six-inch squares with a variety of craft work which they hope to display at the exhibition.
The group originated 10 years ago when four friends, Sandra Soanes, Chris Johnson, Irene Atkinson and Elizabeth Watkinson were chatting over coffee in the Stables Café in Madley.
The group has grown substantially since and now has over 60 members. There are regular workshops on felting, box making, quilling, papercrafts and patchwork etc utilising the skills of the group.
They also run projects for charities; knitting squares for blankets, teddies for children, making fabric bags and heart cushions for Macmillan Breast Cancer Care plus making interactive lap blankets for Alzheimers patients and raising funds for local charities, including St Michael’s Hospice.
They always welcome new members and no skills are required. Meet every Tuesday at Madley Parish Hall, 10am to 12 noon.
