THE Hereford plant of the Joseph Ash Galvanizing firm could close in February, affecting 61 employees.
The company announced this week it proposes to cease trading from the plant in Mortimer Road at the end of February 2015.
It immediately started a consultation process with staff.
If the proposal goes ahead the plant's customers will be serviced from the company's six other plants.
Joseph Ash MD, Steven Hopkins, said: βItβs always sad to have to consider closing a factory where so many people have invested much of their careers, but the market is still a long way short of full recovery and there is a mounting requirement for significant investment in the Hereford factory which likely future returns do not justify.
"Joseph Ash, which is part of the Hill & Smith Holdings group, is a forward facing company and we must continue to develop the business to meet the changing needs of the marketplace.β
The company makes galvanizing infrastructure products such as bridging, lighting and power transmission.
