VOLUNTEERS in Leominster helped to pay a fitting tribute to a former mayor.
Leominster in Bloom, with help from local people and the town cadets, dug in to create a community nut grove and wild orchard on part of the town's Sydonia park on Saturday.
Designed by local landscape architect, Penny Usher, the area features a single chestnut tree which pays tribute to former mayor, Roger Hunt, who died in May this year.
Gill Ding, of Leominster in Bloom, said: "On Saturday we planted the initial circle of nut trees and the one chestnut tree which is dedicated to Roger Hunt.
"The next phase will be to get sponsors for the remaining trees but we are also inviting people to dedicate a tree to somebody.
"Planting for Roger was a moving activity. He was very involved with that area and helped raise money for the swimming pool and the skatepark."
The fruit and nut trees have been provided by a grant from Kingspan Insulation Community Trust ,and will be a major part in next year's bid in the Heart of England in Bloom competition.
