A MUM of one has raised concerns about the safety of her child after changes in the bin collections led to refuse building up outside her home.

Cally Vaughan, 24, lives in a two bedroom flat in Oak Crescent, Hinton, Hereford in a block of six.

Since Herefordshire Council changed the bin collections so the recycling and refuse are collected on alternate weeks, she said bin bags have been piling up outside her home.

Miss Vaughan, who has a two-year-old son called Preston, said the council did not provide extra bins for the changes.

She said: "They have not given us any extra bins. We don't have enough space for the amount of flats.

"I think they need to look at it when it is a block of flats- as it isn't working.

"What's going to happen in the summer? I am not going to be able to let my child go out there and play."

Bags were left behind during last Thursday's collection as binmen said they could not take bags from the floor.

But Miss Vaughan said they have very little options as there are just two industrial green bins and one small recycling bin for six families.

She said when she called the council they said to take the extra rubbish to the tip.

Miss Vaughan said: "I explained to them I don't drive. I work and I can't take everyone else's rubbish. I have got a two-year-old to look after too."

Spokesman for Herefordshire Council, Michelle Morgan, said they were visiting Oak Crescent on Tuesday morning.

She added: "More recycling or general rubbish bins can be put in place if there is space and there needs to be additional capacity.

"However, we must ensure that the waste being left isn’t fly-tipping by people outside of Oak Crescent, or being used by illegal trade waste producers attempting to get their rubbish collected at the council tax payers expense.”
